Quickly and conveniently stitch together or repair any tear, rip, or hem in a matter of minutes! The days of storing a large, heavy, and clunky sewing machine are gone!
Using the Handy Stitch:
The first step in using the Automatic Portable Handy Stitch is to load the four AA batteries. The batteries go in the compartment on the bottom. After loading the batteries, the sewer should set up the bobbin and thread the machine.
Positioning the Bobbin
Unlike a conventional sewing machine the Handy Stitch only sews with one thread. To position the thread correctly, the user should locate the bobbin holder on the side. After pulling off the bobbin holder and spring underneath it, slide on the bobbin. After carefully positioning the spring over the hole for the bobbin holder, slide the bobbin holder and bobbin into place.
Threading the Handy Stitch
The thread goes from the bobbin through the first thread guide on the needle arm, through the two plates in the tension control, and through the second thread guide at the end of the needle arm. The seamstress should use the provided needle threader to feed the thread into the eye of the needle.
After feeding the thread through the threader and the eye of the needle, we should turn the rotary once, so that the thread goes underneath the machine's fastening plate. She should lift the fastening plate, and use her seam ripper to pull the thread out from underneath.
Sewing with the Handy Stitch
Threading the machine is the tricky part, and sewing is a breeze. After threading, the seamstress should lift the fastening plate and insert the fabric underneath at the point where we wants the stitches to begin. The machine only sews from left to right, and does not sew in reverse. Hold the fabric with the left hand, giving it some gentle tension, and turn the machine on, using the power switch on the top. The fabric feeds by itself into the machine.
Securing Stitches with the Handy Stitch
After completing the row of stitches, the seamstress needs to make sure the stitches cannot unravel. Conventional sewing machines have a reverse stitch for this purpose, but the Handy Stitch works differently. The seamstress should turn the rotary wheel to raise the needle arm. Then, lift up the fastening plate, pull the thread out, and cut it with her seam ripper.
Then, turn the rotary wheel again so that the needle goes up and down one more time. This creates a loop in the thread on the backside of the fabric. After lifting the fastening plate again, pull the fabric out. Find the loop on the backside of the fabric, and pull that loop so that the trailing end of thread goes from the front to the back of the fabric. This prevents the stitching from unraveling.
